Synopsis

Free Man tells the inspiring story of Said Nursi, a Turkish religious scholar who stood up against the forced modernization and secularization policies enforced by the Turkish state after the fall of the Ottoman Empire. Despite being exiled, imprisoned, poisoned, and starved, he remained dedicated to peaceful resistance and his teachings continue to influence millions of followers globally. His writings, known as the "Risale-i Nur", were eventually allowed to be printed after his acquittal in 1956, four years before his death at the age of 83.
